Elk Valley Rancheria, located in Crescent City, California opened a wildlife hiking trail experience to view herds of majestic Roosevelt Elk. Follow the elk trail in Del Norte County for a one-of-kind nature experience!

The nature trails will take visitors through lush prairies and coastal redwood, spruce, and alder forests, where they’ll encounter interpretive stations sharing stories of the local wildlife, diverse ecosystems, and the tribal traditions of Elk Valley Rancheria. There will be up-close elk viewing platforms with scenic picnic areas and ocean views, plus trail access for individuals with disabilities. This ecotourism attraction is designed to inspire, educate, and connect all to the magnificent ecosystems of Elk Valley’s tribal lands.

The Elk Trail is officially dog-friendly. Dogs must be leashed at all times to ensure the safety of all — dogs, people, and the elk. There will be times when the trail may be marked as being closed to dogs, especially during the elk rutting season which happens between August and October. Look for signs at the trailhead.
