BoatSmith Whitewater Festival

The annual BoatSmith Whitewater Festival in the Smith River National Recreation Area invites paddlers to a downriver race on the largest undammed river in California, the Smith River. This event brings the boating community together for a whitewater-filled weekend with boat races on Class 2/3 and Class 4/5 rapids, live music, food, raffles and more!
The actual location is announced right before the event (tune to their Facebook page for updates!) but you’ll be floating somewhere on the scenic Smith. Part of this is because of the fluctuation in river flows, and dealing with the ever-changing river environment.
They’ll be raffling off some really awesome gear from cool sponsors. There will also be a Friday night film, live music, awards, and a dance party on Saturday. Sunday’s festivities include a mass float on the Smith River and a river clean-up party on Sunday.
The event is back at Patrick Creek Campground where you can camp with showers, hookups, and bathrooms (fee sites). There is also dispersed camping in the usual spots, and plenty of nearby vacation rentals. The Hiouchi Motel and Patrick Creek Lodge are both great options for nearby lodging.
