DNACA presents Gideon Freudmann: CelloBop
May 12 @ 7:00 pm
DNACA concludes their 2022-23 Performance Series with the 5th concert of the season.
This ain’t your Grandma’s cello concert!
Gideon Freudmann’s music is a unique, improvisational blend of classical, blues, jazz, electronic, funk, and folk. In his performances and recordings, Gideon uses an electric cello to riff imaginatively on musical conventions and traditions. At times atmospheric and often playful, his signature sound exists in its own unique dimension: nuanced, intricate and fun!
Gideon uses technology to create music that is passionate, complex, creative and compelling. He loops and layers his sounds with pedals and amplifiers, sculpting orchestras out of thin air. Gideon’s catalog of 24 released CDs of solo and collaborative work explore traditional combinations of acoustic instruments, as well as esoteric mixes involving sitar, shakuhachi, world percussion, ukulele and much more.
Pursuing his mission to make the cello hip, modern and joyful, Gideon tours extensively, performing solo or in small ensembles across the Pacific Northwest and worldwide. His notated compositions (mostly for three to eight cellos) are performed by groups around the world. His music is commissioned for film, television, theatre and dance. Gideon also composes and performs live soundtracks for classic silent films and his music is frequently commissioned for film, television, theatre and dance.
