KEET PBS Presents Artists Breaking Barriers: A New Documentary Elevating the Voices of Local Young Creatives

KEET PBS is proud to premiere Artists Breaking Barriers, a powerful, youth-driven documentary that explores how local young artists are using creativity as a tool for civic engagement, identity expression, and social change.
“This is one of the most vibrant and inspiring projects we’ve ever produced,” said Jack Lucido, producer of Artists Breaking Barriers at KEET PBS. “These young people are making a difference, and it’s an honor to share their stories with our community.”
Artists Breaking Barriers premieres on Monday, May 13 at 8:00 p.m. on KEET PBS. This one-hour special highlights the stories of six exceptional young artists from across the Redwood Coast region whose work challenges societal norms, uplifts marginalized voices, and inspires positive connections in their communities.

Sage Alucero-Juarez (Eureka): Multimedia artist honoring sustainability, queer communities, and Mexican heritage through bold and personal art.
Savannah Burke (Crescent City): Visual artist exploring teen mental health.
Grayson Johansen (Crescent City): Poet and open mic organizer creating space for First Nations and other underserved communities.
Arpita Panta and Julia Oberlander (Arcata): Founders of Arcata High School’s Fiber Arts Club, weaving creativity to benefit Doctors Without Borders.
Olivia Gibson (Eureka): Poet, drag performer, and musician honoring First Nations and Transgender Communities through personal self-expression.
Produced with support from the PBS Election and Civics: Station Engagement Grant, Artists Breaking Barriers is part of KEET’s mission to uplift local stories, engage young people, and foster meaningful civic dialogue through public media.
