The Wild Rivers Symphony, a non-profit volunteer community orchestra led by conductor Daniel Sedgwick, is comprised of more than fifty Del Norte County and Curry County musicians devoted to live performance of orchestral music from classical to cutting-edge. Taking advantage of the wealth of talented wind and brass players in our communities, Wild Rivers Symphony also features a full wind ensemble in addition to the symphony orchestra.
“Christmas by the Sea” is a homage to the wild beauty and heritage of our coastal home. From The Sea Hawk, by Erich Korngold, to The Winds of Poseidon, by Robert W. Smith, the program features fabulous music connected to the theme of the sea. A program highlight, Sea Pictures, the famous song cycle by Sir Edward Elgar, features vocals by Meredith Sedgwick, contralto. In addition, concert attendees will enjoy both classical and modern pieces such as: Of Sailors and Whales, a tribute by W. Francis McBeth, to Melville’s classic Moby Dick; Water Reflections, by Yukiko Nishimura; and music from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie soundtracks. Toccata on I Saw Three Ships, by Charles E. Peery, and A Canadian Brass Christmas will have all in a happy holiday mood.
Wild Rivers Symphony’s concerts are a wonderful opportunity to enjoy and support local classical and cutting-edge live music at its best. Ticket sales and patron donations help support not only the symphony’s growth and repertoire, but also its mission and commitment to fostering the music education, talents, and aspirations of community youth.
