Visit the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation Kamome Boat
The Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation is proud to host this special replica of the Kamome Boat. In collaboration with the Del Norte High School Tolowa language class, students Alexis See-t’vm Owen, Blake Daa-sralh-ni Owen, and Delaina Ban-lht’suu-tr’e’ Bommelyn painted this one-of-a-kind piece to honor and represent the first peoples of this region: Tolowa Dee-ni’.
The boat’s interior features a vibrant marine intertidal scene. Prominently displayed on the back is a ch’aa-xee-ni (pileated woodpecker). Along the sides of the boat, you will see the word and a painting of a baa-sre (seagull).
Through the power of language and art, they aim to strengthen the connection between all who visit and learn about their coastal home.
